RELATING TO FISH AND WILDLIFE -- HUNTING AND HUNTING SAFETY

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

     SECTION 1. Chapter 20-1 of the General Laws entitled "General Provisions" is hereby

amended by adding thereto the following section:

     20-1-25. Internet hunting. – (1) "Internet hunting" means the use of the Internet to

remotely control the shooting of any bird or animal.

     (2) No person shall shoot at or kill any bird or animal with any gun via an Internet

connection in Rhode Island. Accessing, regulating access to, or regulating the control of a device

1-7

capable of being operated in violation of this section shall be prima facie evidence of an offense

1-8

under this section.

     (3) No person shall import, export, or possess any bird or animal or any part thereof

1-10

which has been taken by the use of the Internet to remotely control the shooting of any bird or

1-11

animal.

     (4) Violations of this section shall be a misdemeanor, punishable by a fine of not more

1-13

than five hundred dollars or imprisonment for up to ninety (90) days, or both.

     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.

EXPLANATION

BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL

     This act would make it a misdemeanor to use an Internet connection to remotely control

the shooting of any bird or animal and to import, export, or possess any bird or animal taken in

such manner.

     This act would take effect upon passage.
