RELATING TO MILITARY AFFAIRS AND DEFENSE -- MONUMENTS AND

MEMORIALS

     

     

     Introduced By: Representatives Gallison, Fellela, MacBeth, Azzinaro, and Costa

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

     SECTION 1. Chapter 30-28 of the General Laws entitled "Monuments and Memorials" is

hereby amended by adding thereto the following section:

     30-28-13. Commemorative flag. – (a) The general assembly shall designate the Honor

1-4

and Remember flag as the State of Rhode Island’s emblem of service and sacrifice by the brave

1-5

men and women of the United States armed forces who have given their lives in the line of duty.

     (b) That the Honor and Remember flag be flown at the Rhode Island State House on Gold

1-7

Star Parents Day, the third (3rd) Sunday in October and during any period of mourning for a

1-8

Rhode Island member of the armed forces of the United States killed in action while deployed in

1-9

a combat zone or War on Terror when flags are flown at half-staff as directed by the governor.

     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.

BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL

     This act would designate the Honor and Remember flag as Rhode Island’s emblem for

service and sacrifice of people in the armed forces who have lost their life in the line of duty. It

would require that the flag be flown at the state house on Gold Star Parents Day and any period of

2-4

mourning when flags are flown at half-staff.

     This act would take effect upon passage.
