Rhode Island’s public higher education system brings tremendous opportunities for our next generation of citizens and leaders, provides a wealth of resources to all who live in the state, and plays a crucial role in shaping our collective future. To ensure that our public higher education system and institutions remain within the reach of all Rhode Islanders, this Commission will examine a range of factors that can limit participation and will seek to put into place solutions that reduce educational inequities and foster even greater success for learners of every age. BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL

OF

H O U S E R E S O L U T I O N

CREATING A SPECIAL HOUSE COMMISSION TO STUDY PUBLIC HIGHER

EDUCATION AFFORDABILITY AND ACCESSIBILITY IN THE STATE OF RHODE

ISLAND

1 This resolution would create a seven (7) member special legislative study commission

2 whose purpose it would be to make a comprehensive study of the affordability of higher

3 education in the State of Rhode Island's cities and towns and who would report back to the House

4 of Representatives no later than May 3, 2011, bi-annually thereafter, and whose life would expire

5 on July 30, 2016.
