STATE HOUSE, Providence – Brenda Dann-Messier, President and CEO of Dorcas Place, administrators and several students from Dorcas Place and the Clothing Collaborative Statewide Network will join Sen. Hanna M. Gallo, Chairwoman of the Senate Women’s Caucus, President of the Senate M. Teresa Paiva Weed, and the members of the Caucus at a press event to launch the Caucus’ 2009 professional women and men’s clothing drive to benefit the Clothing Collaborative Statewide Network on Tuesday, May 5, at 3:30 p.m. in Room 313 of the State House.
The Senate Women’s Caucus has hosted similar drives in 2005 and 2007, and each has been a resounding success, providing professional clothing to women and men who have completed necessary training and met employment goals, but need appropriate attire to enter the professional working environment. The Clothing Collaborative Statewide Network has five locations throughout the state that serve low-income adults. In these difficult economic times the Network has seen a 36% increase in need this year for its services, and wishes to bring awareness to their work and the need for continued funding of this important service.
This year’s drive, which will run through the month of May, will include expanded drop-off locations to make it easier for Rhode Islanders to donate their gently-used apparel. Details will be announced at the press event on Tuesday.
The members of the Senate Women’s Caucus are: Sen. Hanna M. Gallo (D – Dist. 27, Cranston), Chairwoman; President of the Senate M. Teresa Paiva Weed (D – Dist. 13, Newport, Jamestown); Sen. Elizabeth A. Crowley (D – Dist. 16, Central Falls, Cumberland, Pawtucket); Sen. Maryellen Goodwin (D – Dist. 1, Providence); Sen. Beatrice A. Lanzi (D – Dist. 26, Cranston); Sen. Erin P. Lynch (D – Dist. 31, Warwick); Sen. Rhoda E. Perry (D – Dist. 3, Providence); and Sen. V. Susan Sosnowski (D – Dist. 37, New Shoreham, South Kingstown).
