Nursing Home Staffing and Quality Care Act signed into law
The Nursing Home Staffing and Quality Care Act, sponsored by Senate Majority Whip Maryellen Goodwin and Rep. Scott A. Slater to set miniumum stafing levels for Rhode Island nursing homes, has been signed into law by Gov. Dan McKee, two days after General Assembly passage.

General Assembly approves legislation to develop statewide standards in consumer education
The General Assembly today passed legislation introduced by Deputy Majority Whip Mia A. Ackerman (D-Dist. 45, Cumberland, Lincoln) and Sen. Sandra Cano (D-Dist. 8, Pawtucket) that would require statewide standards in consumer education.

General Assembly OKs legislation to rename airport Rhode Island T.F. Green International Airport
The General Assembly today passed legislation (2021-S 05192021-H 6051) introduced by Majority Leader Michael J. McCaffrey (D-Dist. 29, Warwick) and House Speaker Pro Tempore Brian Patrick Kennedy (D-Dist. 38, Hopkinton, Westerly) that would rename the state airport “Rhode Island T.F. Green International Airport.”

Assembly OKs bill making RI Promise permanent
The General Assembly has approved legislation sponsored by House Speaker K. Joseph Shekarchi and Senate President Dominick J. Ruggerio to permanently enact the Rhode Island Promise program, which provides up to two years of free tuition for eligible Rhode Islanders at Community College of Rhode Island.

House passes Rep. Williams’ bill that establishes African American History Education in public schools
The House of Representatives tonight passed Rep. Anastasia P. Williams’ (D-Dist. 9, Providence) legislation (2021-H 5697aa) that would incorporate African Heritage History Education in all Rhode Island elementary and secondary schools.

After General Assembly passage, minimum wage bill signed into law
Legislation will gradually raise the minimum wage to $15 over four years
 
Legislation sponsored by Rep. David A. Bennett and Sen. Ana B. Quezada to  raise the minimum wage in Rhode Island from $11.50 to $15 over the next four years was signed into law by Gov. Dan McKee today, two days after passage by the General Assembly.

The House of Representatives has passed legislation (2021-H 5415) sponsored by Rep. Terri Cortvriend (D-Dist. 72, Portsmouth, Middletown) to make the northern star coral — that’s Astrangia poculata, to marine biologists — the official state coral of Rhode Island.
