Rep. Jacquard named Speaker Pro Tempore of the House of Representatives
STATE HOUSE – Rep. Robert B. Jacquard (D-Dist. 17, Cranston) was named by House Speaker Nicholas A. Mattiello (D-Dist. 15, Cranston) as the new Speaker Pro Tempore of the Rhode Island House of Representatives yesterday. The speaker pro tempore presides over the House session when the speaker is not present and is also a member of the House leadership team.
“I am honored by this appointment from Speaker Mattiello and my colleagues in the House and I am looking forward to tackling the many serious issues the taxpayers of District 17 and Rhode Islanders face in my new leadership position,” said Representative Jacquard. “We are approaching a crucial time during the legislative session and I will do everything I can to ensure that much needed jobs are created for our residents and that our economy is on the correct path for future success.”
Representative Jacquard was first elected in November 1992 and he is a member of both the House Finance and Veterans’ Affairs Committees. He also serves as the Chairman of the House Finance subcommittee on education and is a member of the subcommittees on human services and public safety.
Representative Jacquard, a retired police sergeant, is a self-employed attorney. He earned his Juris Doctorate from Roger Williams University School of Law in 1998. He received his Bachelor of Science degree at Roger Williams University in 1984 and received his Master's degree in Administration of Justice/Homeland Security from Salve Regina University in 2013. He is a 1976 graduate of La Salle Academy.
