Representative Robert B. Lancia Invited to Attend Veteran Civilian Policy Academy
STATE HOUSE -- Representative Robert B. Lancia (R-District 16 Cranston) has been invited to attend the Veteran to Civilian Policy Academy, hosted by The Council of State Governments from November 15 through the 17th, at the Hotel Maya in Long Beach, California. Representative Lancia has been recognized by the CSG for his work on behalf of veterans in the state of Rhode Island.
“This is truly an exciting opportunity to learn more about the issues facing veterans across the country, as well as in my great state of Rhode Island,” said Rep. Lancia. “My hope is to introduce effective legislation, which will benefit veterans, during the 2017 legislative session in the Rhode Island House of Representatives.”
The academy will commence with an opening session that will set the stage with a federal official’s panel, featuring U.S. Department of Labor Assistant Secretary of Labor for Veterans' Employment and Training Michael Michaud and a representative from the U.S. Department of Defense’s Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense (Readiness). They, alongside select national employers, will highlight the challenges facing service men and women as well as the efforts that the DoL, DoD and private sector are making to appropriately ready and transition our military service members into the American workforce.
On Wednesday, Nov. 16, state leader participants, including Representative Lancia, will be taken to the Bob Hope Patriotic Center in Los Angeles. The program will be developed from the perspective of the veteran and his/her experience in their community post-service and what policy implications are related to his/her experience.
