4/24/2017 Rep. Lancia to honor 15th anniversary of 5K Walk and Run to benefit Children’s Friend
STATE HOUSE — Rep. Robert B. Lancia (R-Dist. 16, Cranston) will welcome representatives of Rhode Island’s oldest child welfare agency to the House Chamber Thursday in recognition of the 15th annual 5K Walk and Run to benefit Children’s Friend.

The Walk and Run, which takes place Saturday, April 29, at Roger Williams Park in Providence, will help raise money for the state’s most vulnerable children and their families.

The event begins at the Temple to Music in the park, with registration at 9 a.m. The walk/run begins at 10 a.m. with lunch and a family fun festival hosted by Panera Bread to begin immediately following the race.

“Children’s Friend has been a leader in the field of child welfare since 1834,” said Representative Lancia. “This is a great organization that does so much to create safe and nurturing environments for children during those all-important early years by helping parents to gain access to the resources and support they need, including mental health and child development services. I’m proud to be able to recognize them for all they’ve done and continue to do for the most vulnerable Rhode Islanders.”

Last year, Children’s Friend provided programming and services to more than 38,000 people in Rhode Island. Proceeds from the walk and run benefit adoption, foster care, parent counseling, childcare, Dads Making a Difference, Head Start, early intervention, family counseling and other programs.

Representative Lancia plans to meet with the walk/run organizers 9 a.m. Tuesday at Panera Bread at Chapel View on Sockanossett Cross Road in Cranston to formalize final plans for the walk/run.
