Representative Robert B. Lancia to Honor the Samaritans of Rhode Island and Local Author
STATE HOUSE -- State Representative Robert B. Lancia (R-District 16 Cranston) will honor the Samaritans of Rhode Island for its 40th anniversary, as well as local author Anita Baglaneas Devlin for her book S.O.B.E.R. – a universal story for mothers and caregivers, on the House floor today, Wednesday, May 24, 2017.
“I will be presenting Denise Panichas from the Samaritans of Rhode Island with a House Resolution in honor of the organization’s 40th anniversary. The Samaritans of Rhode Island has been doing important work since 1977, helping those in crisis,” said Representative Lancia. “The efforts of the Samaritans of Rhode Island to prevent suicide and provide outreach to those suffering with substance abuse is commendable and has saved precious lives for forty incredible years.”
Anita Baglaneas, who wrote the book S.O.B.E.R., about her experience grappling with her son’s addiction will also be honored by Representative Lancia on the House floor today.
“Anita’s book is a great story of the unspoken challenges faced by caregivers. Her work, along with the Samaritans of Rhode Island demonstrates the power of caring,” added Rep. Lancia. “I will be presenting Anita with a House Citation in recognition of her work to help others in need.”
The Samaritans, Inc. an independent, Rhode Island 501(c) (3) charitable organization works to meet its mission by providing emotional support through the internationally recognized model of befriending and nonjudgmental listening. The basis for its efforts is its proven, evidenced based suicide prevention model identified within its Crisis Hotline/Listening Line Outcome Measurement Study as well as its U.S. Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) statewide outreach and communication project.
