Representative Kenneth Mendonça to Testify Before House Finance Committee on Bill to Protect Personal Income Tax
STATE HOUSE -- Representative Kenneth Mendonça will testify today, Tuesday, May 30, 2017, before the House Finance Committee on his legislation (H-5790) ‘An act relating to taxation – personal income tax’, which would exempt from taxation social security income received by a widow(er) before reaching the full retirement age used for calculating full or unreduced social security retirement benefits.
Representative Mendonça said, “This is necessary legislation, designed to ease the tax burden on those who have lost their spouse. All too often, a wife or husband faces the untimely death of their loved one, and while they grieve, tax policy should not place an additional financial burden on them. I hope my legislation comes as welcomed relief for those out there under financial stress.”
House bill 5790 is co-sponsored by Representatives Bob Quattrocchi (R-District 41 Scituate, Cranston) and Susan R. Donovan (D-District 69 Bristol).
