MEDIA ADVISORY: Senate Housing and Municipal Government Committee to take Providence housing trolley tour on Thursday
STATE HOUSE – The Senate Committee on Housing and Municipal Government will host a tour of some affordable housing in Providence, via trolley, in collaboration with Rhode Island Housing on Thursday, November 2 at 3 p.m., starting at the State House.
The trolley tour will be an opportunity to learn more about Rhode Island’s growing housing needs, and how federal, state, and private resources are being put to work in Rhode Island. Topics that will be covered on the tour include financing the development and preservation of housing to meet demand, revitalizing communities, and spurring economic development. The tour will include the Smith Hill, Olneyville and Upper South Providence neighborhoods.
Affordable housing options remain out of reach for many Rhode Islanders. Through this tour, RI Housing plans to show what investment in housing has meant for the stabilization, safety, growth and economic revitalization of Smith Hill, Olneyville and Upper South Providence. There are many common preconceptions when it comes to what “affordable housing” is, looks like and who it serves – and this tour aims to provide an overview of what the housing investments of today look like.
The tour will depart the State House at 3 p.m. and is expected to return at 5 p.m. to the State House. Media members interested in attending the tour, please RSVP with Greg Paré at 401-276-5558 due to limited seating on the trolley.
