Rep. Vella-Wilkinson graduates from prestigious Henry Toll Fellowship, appointed Kentucky Colonel
STATE HOUSE — Rep. Camille F.J. Vella-Wilkinson (D-Dist. 21, Warwick) was one of 48 state leaders from across the nation to graduate from the prestigious Henry Toll Fellowship Program at the Council of State Governments annual national conference.
Representative Vella-Wilkinson, who was elected to the House in 2016, was selected from many applicants by a committee of state elected and appointed officials as one of the most promising leaders of state government.
The annual weeklong seminar is named for CSG founder Henry Wolcott Toll. The fellowship is one of the nation’s premier leadership development programs for state government officials. Each year, Toll Fellows brings 48 of the nation’s top officials from all three branches of state government to Lexington, Ky., for an intensive six-day, five-night “intellectual boot camp.” The program’s agenda includes a lineup of dynamic speakers and sessions designed to stimulate personal assessment and growth, while providing priceless networking and relationship-building opportunities. Past Toll Fellowship graduates include governors, U.S. Senators and members of Congress as well as leaders in state government.
“I was incredibly honored to represent Rhode Island,” said Representative Vella Wilkinson. “The CSG Toll Fellowship has a reputation of being intensive in its goal to bring the best leadership qualities to state officials. I look forward to bringing that experience to Rhode Island when the General Assembly returns to session in January.”
The Council of State Governments is a national nonpartisan, nonprofit public service organization. The Council serves 50 states, six U.S. territories and commonwealths. In addition to the Toll Fellows Program, CSG provides legislative conferences and executive workshops, research information and multistate problem-solving opportunities for state governments.
In addition, Matt Bevin, governor of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, appointed Representative Vella-Wilkinson an honorary Colonel. The commission of Kentucky colonel is the highest title of honor bestowed by the governor of Kentucky. It is recognition of an individual’s noteworthy accomplishments and outstanding service to the community, state and nation.
