MEDIA ADVISORY: Senate Rules, Government Ethics and Oversight Committee to hear rule change on Senate expulsions
STATE HOUSE — The Senate Rules, Government Ethics and Oversight Committee is scheduled to meet Thursday to hear testimony on three resolutions relating to the General Assembly and the rules of the Senate.
The committee is scheduled to meet Thursday, June 14, at 5 p.m. in Room 310 on the third floor of the State House.
The panel will hear a resolution (2018-S 2967) introduced by Senate President Dominick J. Ruggerio (D-Dist. 4, North Providence, Providence) that would alter the rules of the Senate regarding the expulsion of a member, elaborating on the process involved and guaranteeing due process.
The panel will also hear two other resolutions introduced by Sen. Donna M. Nesselbush (D-Dist. 15, Pawtucket, North Providence). The first (2018-S 2481) is a proposed constitutional amendment that would change the time that the General Assembly meets. The second (2018-S 2738) would change the Senate rules regarding Senate leadership resignations and party caucuses.
The Rules, Government Ethics and Oversight Committee is chaired by Sen. Frank S. Lombardi (D-Dist. 26, Cranston).
