STATE HOUSE – Sen. Leonidas P. Raptakis’s (D-Dist. 33, Coventry, West Greenwich, East Greenwich) Senate Resolution (2019-S 0036) that calls for President Donald Trump and the United States Congress to end the government shutdown that has lasted the past several weeks was passed by the Rhode Island Senate last night.
“This government shutdown has affected many Rhode Islanders in a devastating way and with this resolution, I am saying enough is enough and that it is time for President Trump and the Congress to end this stalemate for the betterment of the American people. Whether you are a citizen who cannot access federal programs or offices, or a federal employee who is going without a paycheck, it is time for this political fighting to end so that our government can work for the American taxpayers again,” said Senator Raptakis.
The resolution respectfully requests that President Trump and the United States Congress come together and do what is best for our nation by reaching a deal to end the current partial federal government shutdown.
Copies of the resolution will be sent to President Trump, United States House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi, United States Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, and the Rhode Island delegation to the United States Congress.
