2/26/2019 Media Advisory: General Assembly will mark Black History Month
STATE HOUSE – The 10th annual Joint Legislative Black History Month Celebration will be held on Wednesday, February 27, at approximately 4:30 p.m. in the Senate Chamber of the State House.

This year’s program will begin at the rise of both the House and the Senate.  Sen. Harold M. Metts (D-Dist. 6, Providence) will offer welcoming remarks and Co-Chair of the Rhode Island Legislative Black and Latino Caucus Rep. Carlos E. Tobon (D-Dist. 58, Pawtucket) will give remarks and introduce the caucus members.

This year’s keynote speaker is Barbara Mullen, Director of the Learning Leader Network at the Center for Leadership and Educational Equity (CLEE) in Providence.

Black History Month is a celebration of African-American people and events, and has been celebrated annually in February in the United States since 1976.

The event will be televised by Capitol Television, which can be seen on Cox on Channel 61 or in high definition on Channel 1061, Channel 34 by Verizon subscribers and 15 for Full Channel customers.  It will also be streamed at www.rilin.state.ri.us/CapTV.
