Rep. Azzinaro named Deputy Majority Leader
STATE HOUSE – Rep. Samuel A. Azzinaro (D-Dist. 37, Westerly) has been named a Deputy Majority Leader for the 2013-2014 General Assembly session.
The appointment was announced recently by Speaker of the House of Representatives Gordon D. Fox.
Representative Azzinaro, who is serving his third term in the House, was also named the Vice Chairman of the House Committee on Health, Education and Welfare for this legislative session.
As a Deputy Majority Leader, Representative Azzinaro will work closely with the Senior Deputy Majority Leader and the Majority Leader to ensure that party members are properly informed on measures and votes coming before the body.
The House Committee on Health, Education and Welfare considers all bills affecting the health care system, public education, human services and children and families.
In addition to those position, Representative Azzinaro will also serve as a member of the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, which considers legislation impacting the lives of Rhode Island veterans and those currently in military service.
Prior to his election to the House in November, 2008, Representative Azzinaro served for 12 years on the Westerly Town Council, including four years as its president.
