Rep. Craven to chair House Municipal Government Committee
STATE HOUSE – Rep. Robert E. Craven (D-Dist. 32, North Kingstown) has been named to chair the House Committee on Municipal Government for the remainder of the 2014 legislative session.
The appointment was announced last week by Speaker of the House Nicholas A. Mattiello. Representative Craven replaces Rep. John J. DeSimone (D-Dist. 5, Providence) as committee chair following Representative DeSimone’s election as House Majority Leader.
Currently serving his first term in the House, Representative Craven has served on the House Committee on Judiciary (on which he will remain) and the House Committee on Small Business.
Representative Craven is an attorney at Robert E. Craven & Associates law firm in North Kingstown. He is also an assistant solicitor and probate judge in Charlestown and an assistant solicitor in East Providence. A graduate of LaSalle Academy and the University of Rhode Island, he earned his law degree from the New England School of Law in Boston.
“Bob’s many years of experience as a town solicitor give him a valuable perspective of municipal government that is needed as chair of this committee,” said Speaker Mattiello. “He is dedicated to serving the public, as he has done for many years at the town level, with the Board of Elections and with the Attorney General’s office. I know he will bring the same dedication to this post.”
The House Committee on Municipal Government considers all matters affecting municipal governments and transportation.
