Representative John M. Carnevale
Member, House Finance Committee
John M. Carnevale has served the residents of District 13, Providence and Johnston, since being elected in November 2008.
In his capacity as a Representative, Carnevale serves as a member of both the House Finance Committee and the House Labor Committee.
During the recent session, he was a co-sponsor of a bill enacted into law that makes changes to the state’s Medical Marijuana Act, including requiring criminal background checks on all applications for a primary caregiver. His legislation enacted in 2011 requires the Department of Children, Youth and Families to seek national and state criminal background checks for anyone applying for employment with the department. During the 2014 session, he was presented a “Bell of Hope” award from the Mental Health Association of Rhode Island.
For the past four years, he has served as Vice President of Providence F.O.P. He is also a member of Rosario Society, St. Bartholomew’s Society, Loggia Piave Son of Italy, Cranston Fish and Games, Seventh Ward Democratic Club, and is the Past President of the Italian-American Police Association and the Airplane Owners and Pilots Association. From 1980 to 2008 he served on the District 13 Representative Committee.
Carnevale is a graduate of La Salle Academy’s class of 1979. He received his Bachelor of Science in Administration of Justice from Roger Williams University.
Representative Carnevale is a retired Sergeant of the Providence Police Department. Rep. Carnevale was born on September 3, 1961. He has two children, Domenic and Alicia.
