Scott J. Guthrie (D) represents District 28, Coventry. He was elected in November 2008, and previously served in 2001 and 2002. Rep. Guthrie is the vice chairman of the House Labor Committee and secretary of the House Environment and Natural Resources Committee. He was named a Deputy Majority Leader in April 2014.
During the 2013-14 session, Representative Guthrie worked on legislation that addressed the Central Coventry Fire District budget problems. In 2012, he sponsored legislation that gave Coventry taxpayers an extra 45 days to pay their quarterly tax bills. He was also the sponsor, in 2014, of legislation to create a Blue Star Parents Day, honoring Rhode Island’s military families. Rep. Guthrie, in 2014, introduced the Manufacturing Facilities Tax Credit to restore manufacturing jobs. He was a past sponsor of the historic tax credit program which resulted in the restoration of two previously vacant mills in Coventry and revitalizing village districts.
ep. Guthrie is retired North Kingstown fire fighter and a 1975 graduate of Coventry High School. Born on September 24, 1957, he is married to the former Lori McHugh and they have three children, Sarah, Erin and Seyward.
