Representative Joy Hearn
Member, House Municipal Government Committee
Joy Hearn (D) represents District 66 in Barrington and East Providence. First elected in November 2008, Representative Hearn serves as a member of the House Municipal Government Committee.
She sponsored several successful initiatives during her 2013-2014 term, including a pro-business law helping companies provide bi-weekly pay and another statute to protect rape victims and their children.
Her focus in the legislature has often been education, previously showcasing her leadership with the passage of her bill to allocate funds for full-day kindergarten and supporting the creation and execution of the state’s education funding formula. Additionally, she is the co-chair of the Special Legislative Commission to Study the Purchase and Use of Textbooks in Public Schools.
She is a board member of TAP IN, and a member of both the Barrington Congregational Church and the Coast Guard Auxiliary. She is the past president of the Barrington Education Foundation.
Before becoming a library assistant at Barrington High School, she served as a transportation planner for the Executive Office of Transportation and Construction in Massachusetts. She received her bachelor’s degree at the State University of New York at Geneseo.
Representative Hearn was born on Feb. 17, 1958. She is married to Frank and they have two children, Sam and Hannah.
