Representative Joy Hearn
Member, House Municipal Government Committee
Joy Hearn (D) represents District 66, Barrington and East Providence. She was first elected in November 2008. Rep. Hearn serves as a member of the House Municipal Government Committee.
In 2012, she authored a bill enacted into law which allocates state funds for full-day kindergarten. She introduced a successful pro-business law helping companies provide bi-weekly pay. She also sponsored successful legislation which strengthened the penalties for those convicted of leaving the scene of an accident resulting in serious bodily injury.
A strong advocate for education, she was the co-sponsor of the state’s education funding formula which was enacted in 2010. She is the co-chair of the Special Legislative Commission to Study the Purchase and Use of Textbooks in Public Schools.
She is a board member of TAP IN, a member of Barrington Congregational Church and the Coast Guard Auxiliary. She is also a past president of the Barrington Education Foundation.
Rep. Hearn is the Library Assistant at Barrington High School. She previously was a transportation planner for the Executive Office of Transportation and Construction in Massachusetts. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree at State University of New York at Geneseo.
Rep. Hearn was born on February 17, 1958. She is married to Frank and they have two children, Sam and Hannah.
