Representative Robert B. Jacquard

Robert B. Jacquard (D) represents District 17, Cranston. First elected in November 1992, he chairs the House Committee on Corporations and is a member of the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs.
During the 2017 legislative session, Representative Jacquard sponsored legislation, which became law, that increases the maximum post-retirement employment earnings from $15,000 to $18,000 a year for retired educators who provide instruction at state colleges.
In the 2016 legislative session, Representative Jacquard was the prime sponsor of the Lobbying Reform Act. He worked with Secretary of State Nellie Gorbea on this legislation that increases government transparency and cracks down on violations of lobbying rules. As a result, Rhode Island’s new lobbying registration system is a model for the nation. Additionally, Representative Jacquard sponsored successful legislation making any personal property used as a residence eligible for homestead exemptions.
He was previously involved in the CLCF youth sports organization in Cranston and the Southern Rhode Island Youth Hockey Association.
Representative Jacquard, a retired police sergeant, is a self-employed attorney. He earned his Juris Doctorate from Roger Williams University School of Law in 1998. He received his Bachelor of Science degree at Roger Williams University in 1984 and received his Master's degree in Administration of Justice/Homeland Security from Salve Regina University in 2013. He is a 1976 graduate of La Salle Academy.
Representative Jacquard was born on May 18, 1958. He is married to Kathleen (Murphy) and they have one child, Kathryn.
