Representative Katherine S. Kazarian
Member, House Committee on Corporations
Katherine S. Kazarian (D) has served the residents of East Providence in District 63 since first being elected in November 2012. She serves as a member of the House Committee on Corporations.
Representative Kazarian saw two bills she has long advocated for become law during the 2018 legislative session. The first bill requires health insurance plans to provide coverage for a 12-month supply of birth control to all those who are insured. The second bill that became law creates a process for the Department of Education to collect and organize information concerning the workload and scope of the duties and responsibilities performed by school social workers.
During the 2017 legislative session, Representative Kazarian sponsored legislation that requires all school districts to designate an athletic trainer to be available for high school athletic practices and games in order to combat youth concussions.
Representative Kazarian sponsored legislation during the 2016 legislative session that became law which requires the inclusion of instruction on Holocaust and genocide studies in the curriculum for all middle and high school students.
She was born on June 25, 1990, and graduated from St. Mary Academy Bay View in East Providence in 2008. She received a bachelor’s degree in urban studies and economics from Columbia University’s Barnard College in New York in 2012.
A lifelong resident of East Providence, she has served as a Sunday School assistant and a coach for children with disabilities. She is a Customer Success Manager at Upserve, a tech company in Providence.
