Representative Karen L. MacBeth

Karen L. MacBeth (D) has served District 52 in Cumberland since first being elected in November 2008. She is the chairwoman of the House Oversight Committee and is a member of both the House Finance and Veterans Affairs Committees.

Rep. MacBeth was a prime sponsor of legislation to repeal the state’s tourism tax, which was accomplished with the enactment of the Fiscal Year 2013 budget. She was co- sponsor of a bill enacted in 2012 which creates a commission to designate monuments for historical and cultural significance.

She was a member of the Cumberland School Committee from 2006 to 2008.

Rep. MacBeth is the principal of Harris Elementary School in Woonsocket. She was previously a teacher in the elementary, middle school and special education levels and was the supervisor of elementary student services in Woonsocket schools.

She is a graduate of Rhode Island College with Bachelor of Science degrees in elementary and special education. She earned a Master of Arts degree from Providence College and has completed post graduate coursework in Administration and Law.

Rep. MacBeth was an Assistant Swim Coach at the YMCA and she is a member of the Board of Directors at Candleberry Chapel.

Born on September 23, 1967, Rep. MacBeth has three children, Mary, Abigail and Robert.
