Karen L. MacBeth (D) has served District 52 in Cumberland since
first being elected in November 2008.
She is a member of both the House Judiciary and Veterans Affairs
Rep. MacBeth was a prime sponsor of legislation to repeal the
state’s tourism tax, which was accomplished with the enactment of the Fiscal
Year 2013 budget. She was co-sponsor of a
bill enacted in 2012 which creates a commission to designate monuments for
historical and cultural significance.
She was a member of the Cumberland School Committee from 2006
Rep. MacBeth is the principal of Harris Elementary School in
Woonsocket. She was previously a teacher
in the elementary, middle school and special education levels and was the supervisor
of elementary student services in Woonsocket schools.
She is a graduate of Rhode Island College with Bachelor of
Science degrees in elementary and special education. She earned a Master of
Arts degree from Providence College and has completed post graduate coursework
in Administration and Law.
MacBeth was an Assistant Swim Coach at the YMCA and she is a member of the
Board of Directors at Candleberry Chapel.
