Teresa A. Tanzi (D) has served the people of Narragansett and South Kingstown in District 34 since she was first elected in November 2010. She is a member of the House Veterans Affairs Committee.
Representative Tanzi has been a leader in the state’s efforts to protect the state’s seafood and agricultural industries while also encouraging economic development. She was a speaker at the 2012 Netroots Nation conference, a large gathering for progressive voices with the purpose of discussing how to better use technology to influence public debate. The YWCA Northern Rhode Island also honored her as a “rising political star of 2012.”
Her other high-profile legislation in 2012 was what is known as “the good time bill,” which is intended to prevent criminals convicted of serious offenses from being released earlier because of good behavior.
She has studied at Middlesex County College, the University of Rhode Island and Brown University.
Born on Nov. 3, 1971, she is married to Dr. Eric Buchbaum. They live in Wakefield with their daughter, Delia Tanzi Buchbaum.
