Joseph J. Solomon Jr. (D) was first elected in November 2014 from District 22, Warwick. He serves on the House Committee on Corporations, the House Committee on Oversight, and the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs.
In 2016, Representative Solomon introduced legislation to expand insurance protections for condominium owners. He also successfully sponsored legislation to create a special license plate honoring and financially supporting the Rocky Point Foundation, which advocates and supports the public access and enjoyment of the former amusement park.
During his first session in 2015, Representative Solomon cosponsored legislation that establishes regulations and standards for distance learning educational programs. Distance learning is a method of delivering education and instruction, often on an individual basis, to students who are not physically present in a traditional setting, such as a classroom. He also co-sponsored legislation that increased the distance within which a registered sex offender may not reside near a school. Representative Solomon also supported and cosponsored legislation that amends the Workers' Compensation Act by authorizing the delivery of weekly benefits to injured workers through the use of electronic fund transfers.
An attorney and business owner, he is licensed to practice law in Rhode Island, Massachusetts and the District of Columbia, as well as the U.S. District Courts in Rhode Island and Massachusetts. He is a member of the Rhode Island Bar Association.
Born September 4, 1983, Representative Solomon graduated in 2001 from Bishop Hendricken High School, received his Bachelor’s degree in accounting from Providence College in 2005, and obtained his Juris Doctorate degree from New England Law Boston in 2008.
